Starting Small Again
One thing I’ve learned over the last few years is that bigger doesn’t always mean better.
I’ve worked on ambitious projects with huge scopes, but somewhere along the way I forgot how fun it is to finish things.
That’s one of the reasons I started Rovine.
A different approach
This time I’m intentionally keeping the scope small. Rovine is a focused 2D metroidvania where I can experiment, iterate quickly, and actually ship something.
Moving to Godot has helped reinforce that mindset. The engine feels lightweight, gets out of my way, and makes it easy to prototype ideas without spending hours setting up systems before I can even test them.
The goal
Every mechanic has to earn its place, and every system needs to stay simple enough that I still enjoy working on it months later.
We’ll see where it goes but this time the goal isn’t to build the biggest game. It’s to build one I’ll actually finish.
